letterpress curiosity workshop

While I write this post, out of the corner of my eye I see the perfect spot to but my letterpress machine… no I don’t own one, not yet anyways, but any successful person will agree that the first step to achievement is visualization. Although I’ve been infatuated with letterpress printed stationery for some time, I never really thought seriously about owning my own press. Well, that changed after my wonderful Letterpress Curiosity Workshop with Tanya @ Snap and Tumble. I signed up for the workshop hoping to gain a more complete understanding of the technique and process. I loved everything about the workshop. Mixing colours setting type by hand (I enjoyed that more than I thought I would) I even enjoyed the repetitive motion of running the press. I was so consumed by the process that I didn’t touch my homemade white chocolate macadamia nut cookie (courtesy of Tanya) until mt drive home.

Yes, I made a few mistakes, but I never once felt defeated or frustrated. I LOVE letterpress printing and I’m grateful to Tanya for the experience and her willingness to share her expertise. I only wish the workshop lasted longer!

Custom vs. Customized

While planning your wedding or other social event you will undoubtedly browse through hundreds of invitations from various dealers and designers. While considering your options and your budget, it is important to be aware of the difference between custom and customized stationery. Customized invitations are generally picked from a ‘ready to wear’ website or catalogue. These invitation options will allow for changes to font (restrictive list of fonts usually provided), and adjustments of font colour (generally black brown, or blue) in order for you to customize the retailers invitation template. It is wonderful if you are able to find a catalogue invitation that fits your event’s theme and your vision, however if after searching through several of these options you are not able to find the invitation that’s right for you, it may be time to consider truly custom invitations. Ink to Paper specializes in fully custom invitations. These invitations are designed and created for each client individually. All components of these invitations are created based on the unique requirements of the client’s tastes, budget, event and style. In truly custom invitations there is a buffet of options available to you. Just bring your tastes and start sampling! Another great option with custom invitations is the option to do it yourself (check out my poll in the side bar to let me know why you may be interested in DIY). The most popular DIY option for couples is the option to assemble. If custom maps are needed as an addition to your invitation suite, or whether guest addressing is a service you require fully custom invitations is the way to go. The many options available for custom invitations create a price scale that can be quiet vast in range. However this doesn’t mean that custom can’t be affordable. It is the flexibility of custom invitations that allows me to create unique, individually inspired stationery within various budgets, without sacrificing style.
